De Plaets + Amsterdam
About the project
Reckoning at Damrak
De Roode Leeuw is an Amsterdam icon, rooted in the bustle of Damrak and known for welcoming guests for more than a century. With its authentic character, central location and longstanding connection to the city’s daily rhythm, the brand has become a gathering point for travellers, locals and stories alike.
De Plaets is alive. It's a brasserie, a lounge, a meeting place, a stage for life unfolding right in the heart of Amsterdam.

A quiet dialogue between past and present.
Every surface, every material, every curve speaks. Centuries of stories echo in the walls of this historic inn, where Amsterdam’s travelers and locals once crossed paths, celebrated, and lingered. The design honors this lineage, translating heritage into a contemporary rhythm of space, light and material.
Light dances across brass, velvet, and warm wood, shaping reflection and movement without asking for attention. Organic forms flow through the lounge and dining areas, softening the city’s pulse and creating spaces where conversation, pause, and celebration coexist effortlessly.
History is present in the textures, the proportions and the overall warmth of the interior design.
