Landal Lauwersmeer + Vierhuizen
About the project
Once sea, now land.
Lauwersmeer is a man-made landscape that no longer feels man-made. Once part of the sea "the Lauwerszee" it was closed off in 1969, transforming salt water into freshwater and creating a landscape that is still evolving today.
Before designing the interior, we read the landscape.
There’s no postcard version of beauty here.
Instead: openness. Long sightlines. Wind that shapes movement. Light that continuously shifts the atmosphere.
This context asks for something different.
Here, glamping isn’t an aesthetic or a trend.
But a way of being, together, in a space that feels effortless and connected to its surroundings.

Glamping, without the glitter
Inside, we didn’t try to recreate nature. We translated its feeling. How you ask? The rough brick walls bring a sense of permanence. Warm wood adds softness. Deep greens and burnt tones echo the surroundings without becoming literal. Everything feels grounded, like it has always been there. Nothing is too polished. Because the real luxury here isn’t what you get. It’s what you feel.
The central space works like a living room for the park. You grab a coffee, sit down, stay longer than planned. There’s movement, people coming in, passing through, but we always wanted it to feel cozy like an actual living room.
Even the mini market blends in. Not a separate function,
but part of the experience. Everything is designed to feel intuitive. You arrive (whether it is inside or outside) and it just makes sense.
